What is Taekwondo?
Tae Kwon Do is a martial art originating from Korea. Tae means "to kick" or to strike with the foot, Kwon means "fist" or to strike with the hand, Do means "the way” or “art". In other words, Tae Kwon Do is the art of kicking and punching.

The key elements of the South Korean flag:
Tae Kwon Do is a unique martial art which incorporates both the speed and straight line movement that defines Japanese styles and the flowing circular movement of most Chinese styles. What sets Tae Kwon Do apart from any other martial art are the powerful kicking techniques. Tae Kwon Do is not just concerned with improving the ability of a student to defend himself; it is an art that focuses on the gradual moral development of the student.
Tae Kwon Do became an Olympic sport in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games after being demonstrated in the 1988 and 1992 games in Seoul and Barcelona.
